The Incredible Abstract World's Hanne Holdorf

The song of a small bird is heard in the distance, a soft wind caresses the flower petals of the new flowerpot. The sun has begun to make its way into the blue sky. The sound of a closing interrupts the melody of nature, a log opens and a cartridge rolls on the floor that is full of fuchsia petals that have drawn a natural carpet on the ground. Some hands are preparing to start what will undoubtedly be the maximum expression of how human beings feel nature.

Hanne Holdorf, a Danish abstract artist, shared with us her beginnings in the art world and how nature is her purest source of inspiration.

Since what age did you start with your art?

Art has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, I was lucky enough to have an aunt who nurtured this by taking me to art classes and courses at an early age.

What is your greatest inspiration when it comes to painting?

Nature; would probably be my purest source of inspiration; I also find the creative process reflective, meaningful and interesting.

How do you define your art?

I am an autodidact explorer but if you mean what terms I would use to generally describe my style maybe 'raw impressionism' would best describe it . If there is such a terminology?

Your abstract style is inspired by the nature that you have been discovering through your travels. How were you beginnings in this style of art?

My style is something that developed organically over time and is in some ways still quite diverse. Personally I found it was as much an "unlearning/letting go" process, moving away from something quite contrived, in order to move towards a more true, raw and free expression. I try not to set too many restrictions; see where it moves.

What do you consider has been your greatest challenge in the world of art?

There are a lot of challenges for creative artists. For me some of the most important lessons have probably been; To stop constantly censoring myself, stay true to where you're at and trust your process!. We all have our own path; art like life is an ever evolving process and you learn as you go, you kind of have to dare to fail inorder to move on.

That and pricing of course! which I think is something a lot of artists struggle with?!. Was it Oscar Wilde who said: "When bankers get together they discuss art, when artists get together they discuss money". I think there's a hidden truth in this, personally I would rather avoid the topic altogether but that won't pay the bills.

Which one(s) are your favourite artists and why?

There's a lot of great artists out there! I have been a fan of Sam Locke's art for a long time; I think he has mastered a free, simplistic, balanced and interesting style. But I enjoy a wide range of different styles and expressions; art is so individualistic.

In your artistic work you tell us a lot about nature and how human beings relate to the earth. Do you consider that art is a  way of bringing a message of reflection to humanity, about how we relate to it and how we should care for and respect it?

Very much so! I hope to get emotions across, in my landscape paintings, personify them if you will. We are part of nature and essentially I hope to bridge the disassociation between us humans and the nature that surrounds us.

Are new exhibition projects approaching this year?

As of yet; I don't have a lot on the calendar for this year, having just moved; I have been sort of finding my 'footing' again. The world opening up to us all again is fantastic; and I look forward to making more plans. Creating is essentially a humble and lonely process and getting your art out at exhibitions is often what brings the social aspect and a different kind of feedback.
